FAQ

Can I Install AutoHomation™ Myself?

Yes, AutoHomation is designed to be an easy Do-It-Yourself product. Every home automation kit comes with a step-by-step instruction booklet and an instructional DVD.

Is There Anyone That I Can Contact To Fit AutoHomation™ For Me?

Please check our Distributor Page to see if there’s a qualified AutoHomation installer in your area. Otherwise, you can use any licensed electrician or your local handyman.

Do I Need A Power Supply To Run The AutoHomation™?

Yes, AutoHomation is powered by a low voltage, 24V DC power adapter/transformer with a 59-inch-long cord, suitable to use in any country with 110-240V AC main power outlet. Additionally, 6-foot extension cords are sold separately, if required to connect to the nearest power point/socket.

Can I Fit The AutoHomation™ On The Outside Of The House?

AutoHomation is designed to be weather-proof. Standing from inside the house looking at the sliding door, if the sliding panel slides open and covers over the fixed panel, it means your door is fitted from the inside and AutoHomation will need to be fitted on the inside. Still standing inside the house, if the sliding panel slides behind the fixed panel, then AutoHomation must be fitted on the outside of the house.

What If There Is A Power Failure?

If there is a main power failure the sliding door reverts to manual sliding door. The door can still open and close manually with ease.

If The Door Is Manually Locked And Someone Tries To Open The Door By Pulling It Or Activating The Push Button Or Sensor, Will That Damage The AutoHomation™ Motor?

No. AutoHomation will attempt to open the door 3 times but will quickly revert back to close, if it is unable to open. No damage to the system.

If A Visitor Does Not Know That I Have AutoHomation™ Installed And Goes And Pulls Open The Door Manually While It Is In Automatic Mode, Will That Damage The System Or Motor?

No. This is also described as a Power Assist or Pull Assist which is a built-in function of the AutoHomation where a gentle pull of the door handle will activate a full open.

How Long Does It Take To Install An AutoHomation™ Unit?

The average door requires less than 60 minutes of installation time. As all doors are not the same, some doors may require a longer period for installation.

Does The AutoHomation™ Unit Have A Built In Lock?

Yes. The AutoHomation can now be purchased with an electric dynamic locking motor. While the AutoHomation unit is in Normal Mode or Pet Mode, it will remain locked when the door is closed. When the door is activated using one of the AutoHomation activation devices, the AutoHomation will disengage the lock inside the motor and the door will open. Once the door closes back, it will reengage the lock, providing a now secure sliding door.

Will AutoHomation™ Work With An Electronic Locking System?

Yes, AutoHomation works with any 24-volt electronic with both fail-safe and fail-secure electronic locks. Please email us at help@AutoHomationofamerica.com, if you are unsure which AutoHomation version you have. We only supply the additional 2-core cable to wire an electronic lock back to the AutoHomation system. We do not supply the locks and do not assume any liability whatsoever for the use of any external electronic locking system with the AutoHomation system. Please consult your nearest licensed locksmith or home automation expert.

What Door Weight Can The AutoHomation™ Unit Take?

AutoHomation can handle doors where the sliding panel is up to 200 lbs. However, it must be friction free and free-running. The unit can handle up to 12 lbs. of drag force. You can measure drag force using a fish scale or luggage scale. Note: Weather seals and brush affect the overall weight / pull friction force of door.
